To kick off 2025, the Center hosted a virtual forum for athletes

By Ju’Riese Colon, Chief Executive Officer, U.S. Center for SafeSport

State of SafeSport was an opportunity to highlight our progress, challenges, and future plans to continue shifting sport culture. More importantly, it was an opportunity to hear directly from the people we serve.

We welcomed attendees representing roughly 20 sports, and fielded questions submitted both in advance and live. Topics ranged from process changes to case time frames to staff training to support for local affiliated organizations to resources for minors.

The event was moderated by Katy Spaulding, U.S. Center for SafeSport Board member and SafeSport Athlete Advisory Team member. We also worked with The Army of Survivors who made available trauma-informed resources to forum attendees.

As CEO, my goal has always been for the Center to continuously adapt and learn as we evolve as the first organization in the world to do this work. Athletes’ perspectives are central to ensuring we continue to improve the way we show up for those we serve—and this forum is just one of the steps we are taking to listen to athletes and build their trust.

This work isn’t easy, but it is essential. The Center must do more than exist—we need to thrive. It’s going to take all of us—NGBs, officials, athletes, parents— to bring safety and well-being to the forefront of every sport.

Given the significant interest in the State of SafeSport, we plan to host similar events in the near future. A recording of the event is available.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.
