How the SafeSport Database Helps Protect Athletes

Before choosing a youth sports league or hiring a coach, make checking the SafeSport Database part of your athlete safety routine.

What Is SafeSport’s Disciplinary Database?

The SafeSport Database is a national list of adults who are currently restricted or banned from participating in U.S. Olympic & Paralympic sport for abuse or misconduct. The SafeSport Database is also called the Centralized Disciplinary Database or CDD.

The SafeSport Database is:

  • Updated in real time. The database includes every adult currently under certain restrictions or sanctions. This means it is always changing as new individuals are added and others removed.
  • Easily searchable. Look up individuals by name, sport, city, or state.
  • Free and available for all to use. The database is available for anyone to access.

Why It Matters

From elite competition to grassroots playing fields, SafeSport’s database was created to increase transparency and raise awareness about individuals who are currently restricted from sport.

By searching the database, you’ll learn of adults in your community who are either under temporary restrictions pending a SafeSport investigation, or who have been sanctioned for violating rules set out in the SafeSport Code.

How To Use It

Whether you’re a parent, sport administrator, athlete, youth-serving program, or another individual with a stake in safety, you can search the database to learn if anyone you know has been restricted by SafeSport.

To use the SafeSport Database, search by name, sport, city, or state in the top search bar. You can also sort by date or apply filters.

Check the database before:

  • Registering your child with a sport or other youth-serving organization
  • Hiring a coach or staff member
  • Selecting a training facility, league, or club
  • Bringing on a volunteer

Searching the database can trigger many feelings. Explore our resource to support you, including additional recommendations for guidance and support.

Run a Search: For Safety in Sport and Beyond

Even if your sport, league, team, or organization is not affiliated with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement, we encourage you to use the SafeSport Database—alongside other safety screenings, like background checks and criminal record checks—to help safeguard your community.

If you notice that someone listed on the SafeSport Database is participating in sport or if you have reason to believe they are violating a restriction, make a report. Together, we can prioritize awareness to make sport safer for all.
