Welcome! This page is geared towards members of local clubs and affiliates that are part of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. If your local club is a member of or affiliated with a National Governing Body (NGB), you are in the right place. Your sport’s NGB will be your main contact for policies and procedures specific to your sport, and this website will provide additional athlete safety information and helpful tools.
Below, you will find essential information for clubs and affiliates to help you understand your responsibilities in creating safer sport environments. You will also find ways you can take action and resources you can share with the athletes, coaches, administrators, and parents in your club.
Club & Affiliate Essentials
As a member of a local club, your interactions with athletes are critical to ensuring abuse and misconduct does not manifest in your sport community.
Understand the MAAPP
MAAPP (Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies) limits one-on-one interactions between adults and minors and sets standards for training and sport settings that prevent abuse and misconduct. Sport organizations invested in keeping young athletes free of abuse are strongly encouraged to adopt the MAAPP—now required throughout the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement.
Understand the SafeSport Code
The SafeSport Code defines the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s authority and jurisdiction, prohibited categories of abuse and misconduct, and the Center’s process for responding to and resolving abuse and misconduct claims affecting the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement.
Take SafeSport® Training
The U.S. Center for SafeSport produces abuse awareness and prevention courses and has established training and education policies to prevent abuse and misconduct in sport. The 90-minute SafeSport® Core training is an initial training requirement across all NGBs with additional refresher trainings available after one year.
Check the Centralized Disciplinary Database
Check this public database before making employment and volunteer decisions to better understand who is interacting with the youth in your program. Users can search the database by Name, City, State, and/or Sport Affiliation(s). Enter as much (or as little) information as you know.
