2024 Survey

In 2024, the U.S Center for SafeSport partnered with an independent research firm, Pacific Research and Evaluation, to conduct our second ever Athlete Culture & Climate Survey. The purpose? To gain a better understanding of the experiences of athletes, particularly when it comes to emotional, physical, and sexual abuse in sport.

The benefits of sport can and should last a lifetime. The 2024 Culture and Climate Survey found that a majority of athletes felt sport had a positive impact on their lives. That’s what all athletes deserve, but it is not what many experience. The survey underscores the need for culture change in sport and will guide our efforts to help athletes at every level thrive and fulfill their potential.

Although the Center’s mandate is specific to the 11+ million individuals within the Olympic and Paralympic Movement (the Movement), we extended the 2024 survey to those, 18 and older, who had participated as an athlete in any sport at any level in the United States. We expanded our outreach in 2024 to better understand the experiences of athletes of all levels as well as the potential differences there might be between those participating within and outside of the Movement.
